Scion of the Light

A Scion of the Light is a Paladin who has devoted his life to caring for the sick and injured. He is a living conduit through which the power of the Light flows, healing, restoring and comforting those who suffer. The most powerful Scions are so in tune with the Light that they are capable of lighting a spirit’s way back to its body, even if it has passed on.

Weapons and Armor: A Scion of the Light gains no additional proficiency with weapons or armor.

Spells: A Scion of the Light can cast a small number of spells per day. These spells are derived from the (core) Paladin spell list. Caster level is the Scion’s class level. WIS is the Scion’s spellcasting attribute.

Aura of Healing: As long as the Scion of the Light’s aura of good is active, healing spells cast within the aura are cast at a caster level bonus equal to the Scion’s CHA modifier.

Infusion of Light: At every even-numbered class level (2, 4, 6, 8 and 10), the Scion of the Light’s Divine Power pool size increases by 1.

Improved Lay on Hands: At 3rd level, the Scion’s lay on hands paladin ability is treated as though the Scion’s CHA was two points higher (i.e. the CHA bonus increases by 1). This affects only the amount healed.

Brilliant shield: At 4th level and higher, the Scion adds his class level and his CHA modifier to the amount of damage absorbed by his shield of light ability.

Improved Cleanse: At 5th level, the Scion’s cleanse class ability is improved. When it is used, it functions as a lesser restoration cast by a cleric of a level equal to the Scion’s character level.

Holy Shock: At 6th level and above, the Scion gains the ability to use his Lay on Hands at a distance. By spending an additional point of Divine Power, the Scion can use his Lay on Hands on any target within 25’ + 5’/2 Scion levels, and the use of the Lay on Hands and this power together becomes a swift action.

Luminous Hands: Once per week, the 7th level Scion may channel the full power of the Light into his hands. Channeling this ability is a full-round action which provokes attacks of opportunity; if the Scion’s concentration is broken during this time, the ability is expended and lost. Using the ability costs three points of Divine Power.

Once the spell has been successfully channeled, the Scion may hold the charge for a number of rounds equal to his WIS modifier. The spell may be discharged only on a willing, living recipient, via touch. On discharge, the subject is affected as though both a heal and a greater restoration, both cast by a cleric of a level equal to the Scion’s character level, had been cast on him.

This ability does not function on constructs or undead.

Mantle of Sympathy (Sp): At 9th level, the Scion gains the ability to place a mantle of sympathy on a willing recipient. This is a full-round action that costs 1 point of Divine Power, and lasts for a number of rounds equal to the Scion’s combined WIS and CHA modifiers.

While the mantle of sympathy is active, any healing done by the Scion within 40’ of the mantle-wearer affects the wearer at half-strength; so if the Scion used a lay on hands to heal 30 points of damage to one target, the wearer of the mantle would heal 15 points of damage. This ability does not apply to heals cast on the mantle-wearer.

A Scion may have only one mantle of sympathy active at a time. If another mantle is cast, the first mantle immediately expires.

Redemption (Sp): The greatest power of the Scion of the Light is the ability to guide a severed spirit back to its body. Once per month, the Scion may cast true resurrection as a cleric of a level equal to his character level. This functions in all ways as the spell, save that a substantial portion of the body must be present and there is no material component required.

Ex-Scions of the Light: A Scion who loses benefit of any of the Exalted feats required for this class immediately loses all Supernatural, Spell-like and Spellcasting abilities of this class. Depending on circumstances, atonement for his misdeeds may restore access to feats and class features; however, the redemption ability is a reflection of the Scion’s absolute purity and devotion to peace. If a Scion of the Light ever goes astray, he forevermore loses access to the redemption ability.

Likewise, the path of the Scion is rigorous and demanding. Though a Scion may multiclass as normal, once he turns away from the path of the Scion, he may never return.
